Lela B. Smith

Lela B. “Chic” Smith, 86, died August 25th at Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce, Florida. She was born on February 4, 1929 in Honaker, Virginia but most of her childhood was spent in Richlands, Virginia.

Lela moved from Richlands to Ft. Pierce with her husband and children in 1957. She was a retired realtor.

Lela was a strong and determined woman throughout her life and was full of compassion for all she met. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. She always filled her children’s lives with love, caring and optimism even during lean and hard times. Her biggest lesson to her children was “God will always provide”. We love you mother and know you are around the corner waiting to welcome us home again.

Survivors include her children Patsy Smith Warney, James O. Smith, Jr., Larry W. Smith, W. Kyle Smith, seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, James Otis Smith, Sr. and her daughter Mary Caroline Smith.

A memorial service will be held on September 5th at 10:00 AM at Haisley Funeral, Fort Pierce.
