Linda Diane King Hammock

May 19, 1962 — March 12, 2018

Linda Diane King Hammock passed away peacefully in her home on March 12, 2018, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.

Linda was born in Ft. Pierce, Florida, in 1962. She graduated from Indian River Academy in 1980. She attended Florida Southern College, where she was active in Alpha Delta Pi, and graduated in 1984 with a Major in Psychology and a Minor in Religion. She began her career as a Social Worker with Project Independence at Indian River Community College in 1984. She transferred to the GED Department in 1995, to serve as an Instructor. In 2006, Linda began teaching in the St. Lucie County School System. She returned to the GED Department at the college in 2009, where she continued until a month before her passing. In 2015, Linda was chosen to be the Adjunct Faculty Member of the Year. Linda and her husband, Dwain, began their life of ministry in 1992, where they served in several churches as children’s pastors. They founded Spirit Wind Church, and Linda became an ordained minister, and served faithfully alongside her husband right up to her passing. Throughout her near 5-year journey with cancer, she never lost sight of who she was in Jesus, and who He was in her. She continued to pour out and minister to others wherever she was, in and outside the church. There was never a time when Linda did not minister to and pray with fellow patients in chemo rooms, doctor’s offices, and hospitals, as well as to the staff caring for her. In addition, she arose early each morning to text to many others whatever message God had laid on her heart that day. She was a strong and brave warrior who touched many lives with a faith that never wavered. She will be dearly missed.

Linda is survived by her husband of 30 years, Dwain Hammock , and their daughters, Emily and Allison; her grandchildren, Myles and Melody; her mother and step-father, Diane and Oliver Lowe; her step-mother, Lois King; her sister, Suzanne King Murray, brother-in-law, David, nephew and godson, David, and niece, Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her father, James L. King.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Sunday, March 25, at 2:30, at The Crossing Community Church, 8103 Indrio Road in Ft. Pierce.
