Lois was born in Seaville, NJ on February 9, 1935 to Lewis and Mathidle Meher. She was adopted at 6 years old by Maurice and Florence Powell of Millville, NJ.
They moved to Salem, NJ where she attended Memorial Baptist Church and graduated from Salem High School. She went on to graduate from Salem Community College.
Her first husband was William McGowan, Jr., and they had three children, William McGowan III, Robert McGowan and Lori Strang.
She was a licensed beautician, a seamstress, an Avon lady and taught piano. She played piano for over 20 years at the Assembly of God Church in Pennsville, NJ.
She then married Lloyd (Hap) Halstead, and after his tragic accident at work two years later, became a widow.
Eleven years later she married her present husband, Robert Fansler in 1988 and three years later they decided to move to Florida. She acquired 5 stepchildren and between them, they have 17 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Lois especially loved attending Morningside Church where she was always able to make new friends and hear good sermons. She also enjoyed boating, traveling in their motor home, caring for her flowers and playing bridge with her Bridge Club.
Her favorite hobby was playing the piano at home daily. She would play for hours. Even her devoted dog, Andy, seemed like he enjoyed it.
She was a fine example of a virtuous woman found in Proverbs 31:10-28.
