Luis Rolando Galiana – febrero 28, 1940 – marzo 12, 2015

Luis Rolando Galiana - February 28, 1940 – March 12, 2015

Luis Rolando Galiana, 75, of Miami, Florida died on Thursday March 12 at the home he shared in Port Saint Lucie, Fl with his immediate family after a long battle with cancer.

Born in Guanabacoa, Cuba, Luis served in the Cuban Marines, was studying veterinary medicine, and was part of a student revolutionary group against the socialist regime when he was arrested and imprisoned by the Cuban government at the age of 20. After enduring eleven years in prison with other political prisoners, he was granted amnesty by the American government, and immigrated to Florida with his wife and two daughters.
A voracious reader, in his spare time Luis dedicated himself to reading and studying texts on his favorite subjects: theology, metaphysics, and history. He meditated and loved classical and 'new age' music.

A devoted father and follower of the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi and the Buddha Siddhartha, Luis loved nature, the sea and its creatures, birds, gardening, and especially sharing with and enjoying his time with his two daughters and wife.

We will always fondly remember all the family trips we took together every Sunday - to the beach, museums, fairs, parks ... wherever we went together.

We will never forget the long evenings we shared swimming and laughing with you in the pool, your impressions of our favorite cartoon characters that always made us laugh, and how you always taught us to be humble, hardworking, and honest, as well as the importance of not judging others, making decisions based on principles and, above all, to have mercy and compassion for others, especially those less fortunate.

Luis is survived by his wife, Emerita Maria Galiana, his two daughters, Lissette and Lesly Galiana, and a beautiful grandson named after him.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at Haisley Funeral Home in Port Saint Lucie on Saturday, March 21 at 6 pm.

"Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take with you nothing that you have received - only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice and courage."

~Saint Francis of Assisi
