Margaret Alice Burns entered into eternal peace February 1, 2013 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Margaret, a lifelong native of Fort Pierce was born on August 4, 1933 to John B. and Mary May Pettey. She enjoyed growing up in the area and often walked with her dog in tow to the movie theater. She graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1951 and she married Bobby Burns in 1954. Together, they established Burns Plumbing Company where she worked as the bookkeeper from 1961 until her retirement.
Her kind nurturing spirit was evident in her passion for growing things in her garden and caring for the family pets. She loved both animals and nature alike.
Over the years some of her hobbies and passions included singing, traveling, and antique cars. She was a member of The Sweet Adelines singing group, Studebaker Car Club, West Side Baptist Church and participated in the Treasure Coast Opera Society.
She leaves her fond memory to be cherished by her devoted husband of 59 years, Bobby Burns of Ft. Pierce, FL; loving daughters, Laurie Burns of Bluffton, SC, Lisa Burns of Ft. Pierce, FL and a most adoring granddaughter, Ava McGoorty also of Ft. Pierce. Other survivors include a brother, Sherman Pettey of Live Oak, FL, a niece and 3 nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John B. and Mary May Pettey. Also, siblings, Lucille Clausen, John Pettey, Jr. and Sarah Pettey.
