Marie Guettler Hoeffner, 92, died June 6 at home with her family by her side.
Mrs. Hoeffner was born in Cologne, Minnesota. She was the youngest of ten children born to Edward and Elizabeth Guettler. The family moved to Ft. Pierce in 1925. The Guettlers owned and operated the Peerless Ice Cream Factory located on the corner of 7th Street. On February 19, 1936, Marie married Philip Hoeffner. Bishop Barry, Bishop of St. Augustine, presided over the nuptials. Marie was a devoted wife of 56 years and loving mother of eleven children.
Marie was a faithful and supportive patron of St. Mark the Evangelist Church and of St. Anastasia Catholic Church, the mother parish. She served as Eucharistic Minister at St. Mark’s Parish for seventeen years.
Survivors include her sons, Philip Hoeffner, Jr. and Raymond Hoeffner of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughters, Rose Reschak, Lillian Zrallack, Doris Zrallack, Bernice Worley and Laura McFarland of Ft. Pierce, FL, Diane Buhler of Bradenton, FL, Rita Geary of Vero Beach, FL, and Sister Rose Bernadette, O.P. of Orlando, FL; 50 grandchildren and 56 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip A. Hoeffner and her son, Anthony Philip Hoeffner.
Services: Visitation will be held at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 1924 Zephyr Avenue, Ft. Pierce on Tuesday, June 8th from 4-6 PM with a Rosary Service at 5:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 9th at 10 AM at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church. A reception celebrating her life with family and friends will be held at St. Mark’s social hall immediately following the service. Interment will be at Riverview Memorial Park.
