Marie Tackett Shepherd born April 24, 1930 in Pike County, Kentucky passed away Saturday, March 29, 2014. Marie was predeceased by her husband Fred Shepherd, who passed away in December 1972. They had 4 children: Pat Tackett, Teresa Reed (who passed away in 2012), Roy Shepherd, and Steve Shepherd. Marie was a long-time resident of St. Lucie County since 1959 moving from Kentucky.
The family celebrated her life on Sunday and the legacy she left behind of strength and regardless of what life throws your way to enjoy life. During the last couple of months when not able to do the things she enjoyed she would share with anyone around everything about her family, which she had plenty to share! Marie was blessed to have so many that will miss her but have good memories of the times with her, not only her children, but their spouses, 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren.
Marie was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church in Ft. Pierce. She enjoyed her fellowship at church and all the times her Pastor, Mike Oostdyk, spent with her through her times of need and many prayers.
She never met a stranger and always made new friends wherever she went. She rarely went anywhere someone didn't know her.
The family was overwhelmed by the love shown to her by not only her wonderful friends and family that couldn't be here but her pharmacy, Walgreens on 25th and Orange who hand delivered a card to her in ICU signed by all the employees; nurses that went to ICU, where she was the last week, from 4th and 5th floors she had frequented over the last few months so they could tell her goodbye and had dubbed her "social butterfly" as her nickname on her information board by her bed.
There are so many who have kept contact by phone and been a lifeline when she couldn't get out, wish we could list everyone but her sister-in-law, Charlotte, Juanita, nephew, David, Daisy, and sister, Ruby.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends but so thankful she is now in a better place for eternity with Christ, her Savior, and loved ones she has missed so much!
