MARJORY VANGHEL
Marjory was born in Yonkers, New York, in 1937. She graduated from the Westchester School of Nursing in 1958 and pursued a lifelong career in nursing, specializing in critical care. She moved to Fort Pierce in 1975 and held nursing positions at both Indian River Memorial Hospital and Lawnwood Medical Center. She retired in the 1980's.
In her retirement she was a volunteer nurse at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. She was active in the Ft. Pierce Jazz Society and spent much of her time reading, beachcombing, fishing and cooking for friends and family. She developed a well-deserved reputation as a caretaker to all around her, touching a great many lives during her time on earth.
She is survived by her brother, James D. Johnson of Spring Hill; her sister, Donna Siegel of Ponce Inlet; her four sons: Jamieson H. Dirkes of Charleston, SC, Jeffrey T. Dirkes of St. Marys, GA, Carl D. Dirkes and Christian E. Dirkes both of Orlando, FL and 7 grandchildren.
A Celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, January 5th at 11:00 at the Haisley Funeral Home Chapel.
