Mark Ashton Johnson, 56, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, in Fort Pierce, Florida, after losing a heartbreaking battle with Covid-19.
He is survived by his mother: Winifred (Teddy) Johnson, beloved wife: Netty, identical twin brother: Chris, sisters: Andi and Leigh, half-brother and sister: Carl and Teresa, his children: Brittany, Ashley and Dustin, ex-wife: Selena, as well as dear in-laws, future son-in-law, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and countless friends who loved him.
Known for his mastery of pizza dough, Mark was an unforgettable character. Mark spent fifteen years at Pratt & Whitney before achieving his lifelong goal of opening a restaurant, Mozzi’s. A prodigal baker and intuitive chef, he loved nothing more than sharing meals with family, adopted family, friends, and total strangers.
Mark lived life exactly how he wanted, and for this we are grateful. Always full of energy and ideas, his interests included traveling; fixing cars, creating stained glass art; effortlessly crafting meals and desserts; and telling jokes to his nephews.
A feeder of squirrels, defender of spiders, rescuer of exotic flowers and plants, Mark supported anyone and anything in need. He helped countless animals, bees, and people from all walks of life. Although he was busy with many jobs and side hustles, Mark would be the one to hold your hand at the beginning, middle or end, without asking.
Thanks to him, we will choose to live a little more fearlessly and with a kinder heart.
We find comfort in imagining Mark spending eternity making the best pizzas.
Cheers to you, Mark / Marcus / Pizzaman!
Due to the pandemic, a celebration of Mark’s life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the Bridge to Healing Foundation in Mark Johnson’s memory.
