Martin John Helly, Sr. of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away at Lawnwood Regional Medical Center on March 14, 2015 at the age of 87. Born in New York City, the son of Irish immigrants, Thomas and Maryann Helly. Predeceased by his four brothers, Jack, Tommy, Mike, and Jimmy.
Martin was a graduate of Colgate University with postgraduate studies at Georgetown and Lamar Universities. He served overseas in the United States Army during World War II and returned to military service in the United States Air Force in the Korean War.
Martin started his career in the paper industry at Hudson Pulp and Paper and moved to plastics with Union Camp Corporation. He later became president of Himolene Plastics in Rutland, Vermont.
Martin is survived by his wife, Verna, of 58 years, his two sons, Martin and Michael, and daughter, Barbara as well as his seven grandchildren. They are Mike, Laura, Craig, David, Katie, Michaela, and Sarah.
Martin was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed entertaining family and friends by singing Irish tunes. He was passionate about his golf game, enjoyed skiing and tennis, and spending time with his family.
