Mary “Monte” M. Hayes, 92, died June 24, 2019 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mrs. Hayes was born in Greenville, South Carolina and moved to Fort Pierce in 1975 coming from Glenolden, Pennsylvania. She spent most of her life in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Fort Pierce with her husband, Cal Hayes.
Monte was a member of the Indian River Presbyterian Church and a longtime member of the Elks Club in Fort Pierce. She devoted most of her time to the Fort Pierce Elkettes and the American Legion Auxillary. Monte enjoyed playing cards with her friends and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her son, Robert (Carol) Hayes; grandson, Michael Hayes; and granddaughter, Anna Hayes all of Fort Pierce, FL; niece, Ann Sexton Bingham of Columbus, GA; nephews, Michael Sexton and Julian Butler, III; niece, Mary Margaret Butler-Miller all of Laurinburg, NC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence “Cal” Hayes, sisters, Marjorie Sexton and Clara Eloise Butler, and brother, Irvin Montgomery.
In lieu of flowers, Monte would be grateful for donations to be sent to Thornwell Foster Care where her mother worked for years and has become part of the Montgomery heritage. Services: A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Indian River Presbyterian Church, Fort Pierce.
