Mary Mccanna Rebik

September 21, 1942 — July 4, 2009

Mary “Mimi” McCanna Rebik, 66, passed away Saturday, July 4th from unexpected complications following cancer radiation treatment. She was born September 21, 1942 in Providence, RI and moved to Maitland, FL, when she was 5 years old. She attended Stetson University and Rollins College where she earned her Master’s Degree and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She and her family lived in Altamonte Springs, FL until her retirement.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Thomas Rebik of Fort Pierce, FL, her 3 children, Thomas Rebik IV of Sanford, FL, Laurel Zabel of NY and John Zabel of Casselberry, FL, a brother, Richard McCanna of Homosassa, FL and 4 grandchildren.

Mimi was a teacher at Lyman High School in Longwood, FL for 37 years and retired in 2005. While at Lyman she sponsored many school clubs and functions as well as participated in the initial formation of the Juvenile Arbitration court alternative program in Seminole County. She touched many young lives and is remembered with great affection by many. She was also a member of the United Church of Christ in Altamonte Springs, FL.

Upon retirement she and her husband moved full time to their beach home in Fort Pierce where she enjoyed traveling, dinner and dancing with her husband and friends. She especially loved going on cruise ships with a 21 day cruise in the Mediterranean as a recent highlight. Cruising with her husband on their own boat for a few weeks to several months was also a great pleasure with trips to the Keys, Florida’s West Coast, Charleston, South Carolina and the Bahamas.

Friends may call on Thursday, July 9th, from 1:00 PM-3:00PM, at Haisley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 3:00PM.
