Mary Lou Poteat, 73, died peacefully at home on December 2, 2012 after battling breast cancer for 17 years.
Mary Lou was a daughter, a sister, a niece, a wife, a mother, an aunt, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, and a friend.
She studied cosmetology as a young woman and eventually bought the iconic Flamingo Beauty Salon in Vero Beach, Florida. She was a Den mother, a Brownie leader, a PTA mother, a volunteer for the Indian River Riding Club, a volunteer hair stylist for Royal Palm Nursing Home, and sat on various other boards. She always said yes and was there to help anyone that needed her. She was a voracious quilter and leaves behind a beautiful collection of quilted art. She was an ardent lover of her Montana Mountains where she lived for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Guy Edward Poteat of Ft. Pierce, FL; son Douglas Conniff Jr of Oak Harbor, FL; daughters Lucretia Berman of Cape Coral, FL and Lamarcia Boudrias of Fort Pierce, FL; brother Russ Fulton; step daughters Melissa Dorff of Fellsmere, FL & Angela Poteat of Vero Beach, FL; 13 grandchildren & 9 great-grandchildren. Mary Lou was preceded in death by her daughter Melenda Thompson and her grandson Thomas Thompson.
Mary Lou requested there not be any type of services held after her death, but instead, she asks that everyone just get on with your lives and enjoy it
