Mason Wilder Mills, 19, of Jupiter, Florida passed away on Friday, January 5th, 2018 in the loving arms of his mother, Deania Mills and father, David Hitzig.
Mason was born in Jupiter, where he spent most of his life. As a young child, Mason was very much at home being outside and playing with animals. He would often travel with his parents doing educational programs about nature and wildlife. Mason developed a friendship with animal expert, Jack Hanna, and made a number of cameo appearances with Hanna on a variety of talk shows. Working with wild animals was second nature to Mason and he loved all living creatures. Mason also loved being on the water and always enjoyed cruising up the Loxahatchee River, swimming and exploring Trapper Nelson’s.
As Mason grew up, he turned his focus to skateboarding, where he developed a thrill for adventure and the unknown. He even tried his hand at BMX and dirt bikes. Mason was somewhat quiet, but was always polite and could carry on a conversation with just about anyone. His brain was an absorbent sponge and he always managed to share his hidden knowledge on a myriad of topics with everyone he talked to. When Mason was 4, his biological father, Cory Mills, passed away from cancer. Mason was the rock for the family during that hard time.
Now is not the time to dwell on what happened to Mason, or why it happened. It’s just something that came to be. As we reflect on Mason’s life here on this earth, we also need to step back and think about our own lives and how we can spread joy and happiness to those around us. That is what Mason would want us to do. Mason leaves behind many friends and relatives from three families, all who loved him very dearly. Knowing that Mason will be watching over us should bring a smile to our faces. He is in a peaceful place now with endless possibilities and the opportunity to spend time with his father, Cory, who he barely got to know.
