Maurice René (Moe) Levesque, Sr.

July 12, 1937 — February 11, 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Moe, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Survived by his devoted wife of over 63-years, Armande Rose Levesque (née Harel) and a loving father to Joane (Chris Fleck) and Moe, Jr. Cherished grandfather to Andrew, Samuel, Gabrielle and Danielle. Moe also leaves behind his dear sister, Therese and special nephews, nieces and cousins. He was a much- loved son of the late Emile and Jeanne (née Turcotte) and brother to his predeceased younger siblings, Jeannine and Jean-Guy.

Born in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, Moe's love of the sea and wanderlust inspired him to join the Royal Canadian Navy at an early age where he excelled as a seaman and an all-around athlete, including boxing and football. He was a big man with powerful hands yet moved with extraordinary grace. In 1963, Moe started as a walk-on with the CFL's Montreal Alouettes as a defensive tackle. In 1967, he finished his football career in Ottawa, after playing with the Saskatchewan Roughriders who were the 1966 Grey Cup champions. His desire to live in a warmer climate brought him and his family to South Florida in 1978, where he continued to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities in the construction business. Moe could do anything with his hands from rebuilding an engine to the most beautiful masonry. If he could imagine it, he could create it (and he had quite the imagination).

Moe was a gregarious man, who had an unquenchable joie de vivre and was a natural raconteur, whose humour could entertain for hours. A lover of music and reading, he had a generous heart; always a 'giver'. Moe's altruistic nature extended beyond his family and friends, he gave to the community he lived in for over 40 years. He was an active member of Kiwanis, contributing to many community based initiatives in the Fort Pierce area.

Moe, we'll see you 'on the other side' and with that twinkle in your eye, no doubt you will say, "Thanks for the warning."

A private family celebration of life will take place at sea at a later date. We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Port St. Lucie Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center and to the VITAS Healthcare & Hospice team. Please consider a donation in memorandum to your local Dementia Society.
