Melanie Ward Shrensel
Melanie Ward Shrensel, 59, of Fort Pierce, FL, passed away peacefully at Lawnwood Regional Hospital on June 8, 2024. She was born on December 21, 1964, in Buffalo, New York, to Roy and Patricia (Evans) Ward. She has resided in Fort Pierce, FL for the past 59 years.
While growing up, during the summer months, Melanie had the opportunity to attend Camp Idel Pines for Girls at Bow Lake, New Hampshire, as a camper. During her teenage years, she was a camp counselor teaching swimming, canoeing and many other activities.
Melanie graduated from Fort Pierce Central High School, Class of 1981. She continued her education at Florida Southern College at Lakeland, Florida and received her Bachelor of Music Education degree. Melanie started teaching elementary music in the St. Lucie County School District. She taught at several different elementary schools for a period of 35 years. Her longest tenure was at Savannah Ridge Elementary School where she retired.
Melanie was the Director of Music at the First Methodist Church of Fort Pierce for several years. She was also Director of Music at the Indian River Presbyterian Church in Fort Pierce for several years until she retired. Melanie was a member of the Treasure Coast Opera Society singing in the chorus and in supporting roles of several operas.
Some of Melanie’s hobbies included collecting cookbooks with new recipes and sharing with family and friends. Another hobby she had was counted-cross stitch. She created many exquisite artistic pieces of wall hangings.
Melanie is survived by her beloved and adored husband of 10 years, William Shrensel. She is also survived by her father, Roy Ward of Fort Pierce. She will be missed by hundreds of adults and hundreds and hundreds of children who loved and admired her.
A memorial service celebrating Melanie’s life will be held at Indian River Presbyterian Church 2499 Virginia Ave, Fort Pierce, FL 34982 on September 7, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the Treasure Coast Food Bank.
