Port St. Lucie

Michael Thomas Lowe, 74, of Port Saint Lucie, FL, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2023, with his family by his side.

Michael was born on October 14, 1948 in Irvington, New Jersey, and married his high school sweetheart, Laurie Varga, on June 5, 1971. Their family of three moved to Brick, NJ in 1977, and their final move with their family of six moved to Port Saint Lucie, FL in 1990.

Throughout his thirty-year career as a math teacher, Michael was loved by his students for his quiet demeanor and funny personality. Before retirement, he had most recently taught at Hidden Oaks Middle School and Dr. David L. Anderson Middle School in Martin County, Florida.

Michael was predeceased by his parents, William and Rose Lowe.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Laurie Lowe (Varga), their four wonderful children, Michael Lowe Jr. (Jaclyn), Lauriann Hebb (Jimmy), David Lowe (Yumei), Suzanne Meyer (Andrew), and their 11 loving grandchildren: Michael Lowe III (22), John Lowe (19), Matthew Lowe (15), James Hebb III (14), Jacob Lowe (13), Kaitlyn Meyer (12), Luke Hebb (12), Zackary Meyer (10), Nathan Hebb (9), Thomas Meyer (6), and Kaelan Lowe (2).

In addition to his immediate family, Michael is survived by his sisters Rosemarie Scelfo (Frank), Alice Allen, Eileen Eddins (Harold), his brother William Lowe Jr. (Kathy), and many nieces and nephews.

After retirement, Michael’s greatest joy was being the best Pop-Pop to his 11 grandchildren. He loved the Beatles, crossword puzzles, was an avid reader, and had one of the best Christmas lights and music show in the City of Port St. Lucie. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at 10 am at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, in Palm City, FL.
