Michael Rovinski

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, Michael Rovinski, 65, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. He fought hard and courageously and far outlived his original diagnosis.

Michael was born and grew up in Boonton, NJ. He graduated from Morris Catholic High School and attended Villanova University where he graduated with a Baccalaureate degree in Political Sciences. He worked many years at Washington Mutual.

He relocated to Florida in 1995, where he met his wife and best friend, Alison J. Hawthorne. It was at their home that family and friends congregated, from Halloween parties to Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Sunday football. Every holiday was celebrated.

Michael lived life large. His laugh was contagious and he never met a stranger. If he came across someone in need, he helped them, no questions asked. He could throw a mean dart, made many a friend over a beer (or two) and trash talked in a football pool with the best of them. Golf was a passion and he checked off a bucket list item with his hole in one at Northport Golf Course in Maine. He always enjoyed a day of fishing and loved to play cards, dominoes and any game going that included laughs and camaraderie. He kept his brain sharp with crossword puzzles and rarely left a Sunday puzzle uncompleted. Michael loved to cruise with his family, and never one to turn down a dare, was a proud finalist in the belly flop contest. He loved to travel in the RV to visit family and meet new friends along the way.

As fun loving as Michael was, he was an introspective man as well, and cared deeply about others and their rights to equality. He was well versed in current events and loved a good debate. He was an avid reader, with books being traded frequently among family and friends.

Michael was a loving husband, father, grandfather (Jaju), brother and uncle. He was predeceased by his parents, Francis Joseph Rovinski and Josephine Rose (Belcastro) Rovinski and brothers, Francis Joseph Rovinski, III, and Robert Rovinski.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Alison J. Hawthorne, children Michael Francis Trautwein, Allison Marie Collins (husband Danny, children Emma, Declan and Noah); Christine Elizabeth Rovinski (husband Eugene, child Harrison); and Mary Elizabeth Trautwein (child August); sister, Christine Ann Rovinski Wagner (husband Adam); many in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom miss him dearly.

Michael’s love of life endeared him to everyone. He loved his immediate family and extended family unconditionally. He was, and continues to be, deeply loved by his family and large circle of friends.

In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate memorial donations in Michael’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or Where Angels Play, PO Box 670, Oakhurst, NJ 07755.

A celebration of life was held on Sunday, September 25th, which would have marked their 25th wedding anniversary. A graveside service will be held in Maine in the summer of 2023. Arrangements have been made by Haisley Funeral Home and information may be obtained on the Haisley website.
