Morris Beams, 78, died April 7, 2017 in Fort Pierce, Florida.
Mr. Beams was born in Mountain Ash, Kentucky to George and Lelia Beams. Grew up on a farm with his parents, 2 younger brothers and grandparents. He completed 8th grade at Mountain Ash Elementary School. His parents moved to Whitley City, Kentucky where he started high school. He graduated from McCreary County High School in 1957. He then attended Cumberland College. He worked for Illinois Plate Glass Company, also worked for Greer Brothers & Young Construction Co. and taught school one year in Ohio. He went on to graduate from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, Kentucky. He moved to Fort Pierce and began his teaching career which spanned to 50 years.
He was a member of Orie S. Ware #874 Masonic Lodge in Stearns, Kentucky, Scottish Rite 32’Mason in Covington, Kentucky, Oleika Shine Temple of Lexington, Kentucky and of Southside Christian Church, Fort Pierce. He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing.
Survivors include his son, Morris Beams, Jr. of Fort Pierce, FL; grandson, Robert Keeney; granddaughters, Ashley Austill and Lisa Beams; 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, John Beams of Williamsburg, KY and David Beams of Ashville, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Beams.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southside Christian Church in memory of Morris and Virginia Beams.
Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 PM with a service to follow at 3:00 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce. Burial will follow at White City Cemetery.
