Nancy Ellen Barton
April 26, 1956 – April 6, 2024
With profound sadness the family of Nancy Ellen Barton, 67, announces her passing, at home, in Fort Pierce, Florida, in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 6, 2024, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her devoted husband and loving children.
Nancy was born April 26, 1956, in Huntingdon, PA, the daughter of the late Max and Romance Fisher (Neubauer). She spent her early life in Altoona, PA and graduated from the Altoona Area High School in 1974. She attended Penn State University. In the mid-1970’s, Nancy spent time as a member of a popular regional rock/pop band, Brandywine, and toured with the band as a back-up vocalist and hand percussionist playing the Holiday Inn circuit in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Later settling down and raising a family, Nancy had a diverse career serving as executive assistant in businesses and non-profit organizations in Altoona before relocating with her husband to Boston, MA in 2000. In Boston, Nancy served as executive assistant to the CEO of an English-Spanish book publisher and later as operations manager in an emerging bio-tech company. In 2004, the family moved to Carson City, Nevada where they lived for 16 years and Nancy continued working in commercial and residential property management, retiring as Executive Assistant at the Sierra Nevada Board of Realtors in 2017.
In addition to her parents, Nancy is predeceased by a brother, Michael, who passed away April 6, 2015, nine years to the day before Nancy. She leaves behind her grieving husband, Peter, of Fort Pierce and a son, Nicholas Anicito of Port St. Lucie, FL, and a daughter, Heather Barton also of Port St. Lucie. Three granddaughters; Amelia, Ava, and Alexandra also reside in Port St. Lucie. Nancy is also survived by an uncle, niece, nephew, and several cousins. Her three rescue beagles; Lacey, Tucker and Douglas miss her dearly.
Nancy was a woman of great faith and strength and marked with a generous heart. For many years she taught Sunday school and ran youth programs at the Mardorf United Methodist Church in Altoona. She found enjoyment spending time with her family and her many friends, involvement with dog rescues, and was a passionate expert baker, known especially for her much sought-after pies of all varieties.
Funeral services will be held on Nancy’s birthday, Friday, April 26, 2024. Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Haisley Funeral Home, 3015 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce, from Noon to 1pm. At 1:45pm a funeral Mass will be celebrated in the St. Anastasia Church Hall located at 407 S 33rd Street, Fort Pierce, FL 34947. Following the Mass, final inurnment will be in the mausoleum at the White City Cemetery, 3800 Sunrise Boulevard, White City.
