Neil Franklin Mohney

July 12, 1937 — April 30, 2012

Neil F. Mohney, age 74, passed away April 30, 2012, after a long illness in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Neil was an artist, founder of Gallery on the Glen in Boardman, OH. He retired and moved to Port St. Lucie, FL in 2009.

Mr. Mohney was born in Cleveland, OH, July 12, 1937. He was the son of Grant L. and Irene Mott Mohney. He attended Ashtabula High School and The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He was well known for his Pastel drawings of animals.

Neil worked most of his life in the food service industry, moving to Boardman in 1965 while employed by Morgan’s Food Service. He became the operations Manager for Allied Food Service in Boardman in 1967, traveling the east coast opening new locations for the company.

Eventually Neil and wife Mary Ann opened their own Family restaurant, Mohney’s Belpark, located in the Belpark Professional building across from St. Elizabeth Hospital on Belmont Avenue. They operated the restaurant from 1982-1987 when Neil became ill with Heart Disease.

With the help of SSI rehabilitation program Neil went into business again; utilizing his artistic skills and after a short operation in his home, he relocated to the Glen Shops, opening Gallery on the Glen in 1992.

Neil’s avid love of sports primarily baseball and basketball proved to add to the creative designs of custom framed sports art and charcoal portraits of many famous players. Neil personally presented several of his portraits to sports greats including Bevo Francis, Bob Feller and Jim McMahon. He promoted the work of area artists through several open house gatherings and the Gallery served as a chartable donor for many local programs that were important to him. In 2003 Neil entered semi-retirement turning over the Gallery to daughter Lauren.

While residing in Boardman, Neil was a 42 year member of St. Charles Parish. He was active in the church, a former member of the first Men’s Club and an usher at the 6pm Saturday Mass. He became a member of St. Lucie Catholic Church after relocating to Port St. Lucie, FL in 2009.

Neil is survived by two daughters Lauren Perrotta (Alvin) of Boardman, Jacqueline Holmes (Harry) of Washington, PA, son Trevor F. Mohney (Bonnie) of Boardman and three stepsons Kevin Conley (Jeannette) of Dublin, OH; Kerry Conley of White Oak, PA; Kenneth Conley (Yvette) of North Huntington, PA, and Mark Mohney Stoner of Lancaster, PA.

Neil has seven grandchildren, Nicholas McNamara of Washington, PA; Kelly Mohney Snyder and Trevor G. Mohney of Boardman, OH; Mary Conley of Pittsburgh, PA; Beth Marshall of Lisbon, OH; Renee McMahon of Buffalo, NY and Jack Conley of North Huntington, PA. Neil has two great-grandchildren, Haleigh McNamara and Isabelle Snyder.

Neil is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Mary Ann McNally Mohney whom he married in March 1962. Mary Ann passed away February 16, 2007. Also preceding his death were his parents Grant and Irene, his stepson Keith M. Conley, daughter Adrienne E. Mohney, Fraternal twin brother Wayne Mohney, his sister Shirley Hale and his half brother Eddie Watson.

Neil leaves his companion and dear friend Sandra W. Armstrong with whom he made his home for the past three years in Port St. Lucie, FL and his beloved dachshund Lola.

The family would like to thank the staff of Treasure Coast Hospice facility of Fort Pierce, FL and his attending staff at Saint Lucie Hospital for their compassionate care of Neil.
