Nerva Leclerc was the second of five children born to Henry Leclerc and Celice Leclerc on July 29, 1942. He along with his siblings, Merilia, Felix, Antonine, and Mathilde, were born in the southern part of Haiti in a village called Fond-des-Blancs.
At the age of 9 years old, his mother passed away and his father passed away a few years later when Nerva was 15 years old. The passing of his parents at a young age due to health issues and a lack of adequate medical care in Fond-des-Blancs was a source of inspiration for him to enter the medical field as a radiology technician. It also contributed to his desire to give back to his community by donating land to build several wings of the only hospital in his hometown, St. Boniface Hospital, in honor of his parents Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leclerc. Nerva actively volunteered his time in the radiology department whenever he would visit Haiti to help cure tuberculosis and cholera.
Nerva was the first in his family to migrate to the United States in 1967 where he settled in New York City. Upon his arrival to the US, he attended Hunter College where he earned his GED. He started working as a janitor at Lenox Hill Hospital in 1968 where he earned $69 per week for a period of 3 months before transferring to the radiology film processing department. This is where he met a young lady that he would marry for life, Betty Jean Dasher. He married Betty Jean on September 26, 1976. Through their union, their son Jermaine was born.
In 1980, Nerva relocated to Miami, FL to start the radiologic technologist program at Jackson Memorial Hospital in an effort to provide a better life for his children, Sandrews, Jermaine, and stepson Vincent Lee Dasher. He believed strongly in furthering his own education and always stressed the importance of education to his family. Nerva was a man that cared deeply for his immediate and extended family. He played an instrumental role in bringing two of his siblings and other relatives to the US, and served as a father figure, role model and mentor to the children in his family, including his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and godchildren. Nerva was a man of few words, but when he spoke everybody listened.
Nerva’s strong work ethic lead him to give Jackson Memorial Hospital 29 years of service. His work in the medical field contributed to many of his relatives entering in the healthcare industry. During his pastime, Nerva enjoyed traveling, gardening, and carpentry. He was also a member of North Miami and Stuart SDA Churches.
He closed his eyes to rest on Monday morning, January 6, 2020, and now awaits the call of the Life Giver on that great gettin’ up morning. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his faithful wife, Betty; sons Sandrews, Jermaine; stepson Vincent Lee Dasher; grandchildren: Jayvonne, Ezekiel, Joel, Gabrielle, and Galela; brother, Felix; sisters: Merilia and Mathilde; brother-in-law, Dorleans; daughter-in-law, Bazi Endale; aunt, Erna Lafontant; nieces: Sandra, Kisha, Genevieve, and Juliette; nephews: Felix Jr., and Bastien, God-Daughters; Tahnee Wilder and Natalie Charles, God-Son; Stephen Rene, and a host of cousins, relatives, extended family and friends.
