Nora Lee Handford

Nora Lee Handford, affectionately called “Tap,” was born on February 16, 1921 in Bainbridge, Georgia of Decatur County, to the late Andrew Johnson and Beulah Gaines.

Nora married Mozell “Mose” Handford (deceased) and they resided in Bainbridge, Georgia. Their union produced eight children; Valerie, Robert (deceased), Cornell (Robin), Dornell (Laura), Lee (Irene). John (deceased), Lou Jane and Delores ((Jasper). Nora had three sister, Willie Mae, Ollie Mae, and Arena, and one brother, Jimmy, all of whom have preceded her in death.

Nora was a stay-at-home wife and mother. For a very brief period, she worked as a domestic helper. She was well-known in the neighborhood as a hospitable and kind person. There were always neighborhood children playing in her yard. She welcomed them and they respected her.

After the death of her son Robert, Nora’s children encouraged her to move to Florida. After a short stay in Florida, she moved to Texas and two years ago she returned to Florida. She enjoyed reading, traveling, cruising the Caribbean, visiting local attractions, such as Disney, Busch Gardens, and other vacation attractions across the country. She also loved country music.

Nora leaves behind six of her children, fourteen grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Nora “our mom” will be greatly missed. The family appreciates the many phone calls, loving expressions, and kind words of encouragement they have received.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 1PM to 3PM with a service to begin at 3PM at the Haisley Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port St. Lucie, FL 34984.
