Odelia Grimes passed away May 7, 2012 in Palmdale, California where she resided with her daughter.
“Dee” was a born at Springfield Corners, Wisconsin on January 6, 1921 and dedicated her life to the healing and helping of others. She graduated with the class of ’43 from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Madison, WI and served as a First Lieutenant Nurse with the Army’s 60th General Hospital in the Philippines during World War II.
As a civilian after the War, she worked as a nurse for 35 years at Ft. Pierce Memorial Hospital.
Her husband of 57 years, Lyman “Jim” Grimes, and her son Douglas, greeted her in Heaven in time for Mother’s Day.
She is survived by her sister Theresa Stutz of Madison, WI, her children Dick and Cindy Grimes, Dede Grimes, and Mary and Bill Boehm. Her grandchildren include Darcy and John Tarr, David Grimes, Douglas Grimes, Katie and Robert Sherlock, Will Boehm, Sarah and Graham Widman, Grant Elder, and Logan Elder.
Dee will be remembered for being a loving mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor, and wife. She was an avid quilter, reader, painter, and loved to bake bread and pies. She had the heart of an adventurer and was an active participant in life. She was just as likely to jump on the back of a friend’s motorcycle for a ride around the block as she was to fly in a B-52 to a dance. Dee was always ready to help a neighbor or friend with medical advice or a kind word or action.
A viewing will be held at Haisley Funeral Home on Saturday, May 12th at 10 am. The funeral will follow at 11. Graveside services will be at White City Cemetery following the funeral.
