Patricia (Patty) Sue Cart Worley was born in Charleston, WV in March of 1941. She used to walk down the hollow from the hill where she lived. It was on one of those walks, when she was 13, she met Butch Worley. She told her friends she was going to marry him someday. Four years later she did just that. They enjoyed almost 62 years as husband and wife until God called Butch home in March 0f 2020. Patty lasted on this earth 3 months and 2 days without him. It was the longest they had been apart in those 62 years.
Butch and Patty moved back and forth from West Virginia a few times before settling in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1961. They raised three children there: Steven, Cathy, and Tanya. As the years progressed, they gained three more through marriage: Kris, Tom, and Eric. And they did claim these additions as their own. In addition to these children, there home was always open to anyone who needed support and comfort. They picked up countless children and took them to church. They were not shy about sharing what Jesus had done for them, and what He can do for you to.
Patty was the epitome of the Proverbs 31 woman. When the kids were small, she worked from home and sold at the flea market on Saturdays. She did craft shows as well. When Tanya was in 10th grade, Patty went to work in a school kitchen. She was the cook at Floresta Elementary until she retired in 2015 at the age of 74 because of Butch’s health. She kept active by going to yard sales and selling her finds on eBay. She LOVED to go junkin’ as she called it. She taught her children that no matter the situation things could always be worse, and God was always there to lean on. Patty made sure her children knew that she loved them. She took care of them before herself. And they truly “rise up and call her blessed.”
Patty was faithful to church until health prevented it. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church as her passing. She invited any she could to come and worship with her. She was proud that they sing the old hymns and are not afraid to preach what God says in the Bible.
Because Patty accepted Jesus as her Savior and was washed in His blood, she went to her eternal heavenly home on June 16th 0f 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents- Everett Bruce and Grace Marie Lovejoy Cart, her sister- Catherine Janette, and her husband Bernard (Butch) Odell Worley as well as an infant that died in the womb. She is survived by her brothers- Ernest Cart and Johnie Cart and her sister- Mary Crawford; her children (and their spouses)- Steven Worley (Kris), Cathy Greene (Thomas), and Tanya (Eric); her grandchildren- Leslie Worley, Matthew Worley, Caitlyn Albritton, Emma Albritton, and Megan Greene; and her great grandchildren- Malia Worley and LaNiya Worley. As well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers, sisters and children of the heart.
Kris and Eric, on separate occasions, told Tom when he was dating Cathy that “this family sucks you in like a black hole” (in a good way). It was true; so, if you have felt the effects of their love count yourself blessed and carry on their legacy.
A memorial service will be held at Liberty Baptist Church on Midway Road in Fort Pierce, FL on Thursday, July 2, 2020 at 6:30 pm. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Haisley Funeral and Cremation Services of Fort Pierce.
