Paul J. Driscoll

February 8, 1930 — August 24, 2020

Paul J. Driscoll, a lifelong resident of Ft. Pierce, passed away August 24, 2020.

Born in 1930, he attended St. Anastasia Catholic School and at age 13, got his first job at the Ft. Pierce News Tribune as a paper boy. He did various jobs at the Tribune until he went to college. Paul received his BS and Master's degrees in agriculture from the University of Florida, where he met the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Alicia.

After college, Paul served in the Transportation Corps of the U.S. Army in Korea from 1953-54. He remained in the Army Reserve until 1979 when he retired as a Lt. Colonel.
Paul had a long career in the citrus industry as a fertilizer salesman, grove owner, manager and consultant. He served on many industry boards including the Indian River Citrus League, Ocean Spray Citrus Advisory Committee, Florida State Horticulture Society Florida Citrus Production Manager’s Association and St. Lucie County Farm Bureau. He especially enjoyed evenings with the Swampstompers.

Paul was also active in his community, serving on the boards of many civic organizations, including the St. Lucie County Chamber of Commerce, John Carroll High School, Orlando Catholic Diocese Board of Education and Camp Hidden Hammock (Girl Scouts). He was a member of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church since its inception and a life of the Knights of Columbus.

He was deeply loved as a husband, father and grandfather for his dedication to duty, devotion to our family, his integrity, love of country and his generous heart. He was a man shaped and formed by the faith passed on to him by his parents and that he held close and dear to his heart. He was our teacher and our role-model and we are most deeply grateful to him for passing on the faith to us.

Paul was predeceased by his wife, Alicia, and his brother Thomas. He is survived by his 5 children, Cecelia (Eldon) Muller, Catherine Driscoll, Karen (Richard) Ghent, Paul J. Driscoll, Jr. (Nancy) and Melanie Richmond, as well as 6 grandchildren: Ashley (Josh) Hall, Brittany (Gavin) Chamberlain, Nathan (Savannah) Muller, Tanner (Christina) Dieppa, David Driscoll and Deanna Driscoll and 2 great grandchildren, Colton Hall and Adeline Alicia Chamberlain.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church or John Carroll High School (Tuition Assistance).
