He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. He received WWII Victory Medal, American Area Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal. He enjoyed fishing and yard sales.
Survivors include his daughter-in-law, Emily Benson. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Darlene Warneck and son, Alan Smith.
