Paula Fay Ingersoll

Paula Fay Ingersoll, 75, of Ashtabula, Ohio, passed away June 29, 2023 in Fort Pierce, Florida, due to complications from cancer and dementia.  All who knew Paula knew she loved fiercely and with her whole heart-especially when it came to her family.  She gave selflessly to others through her more than four-decades-long career as a nurse and lived a life of integrity and faith as a devout Christian. A big believer in healthy living, Paula was well-known for her daily exercise and regular lunch of an apple and yogurt while at work. If you wanted to see Paula’s face light up with joy, put her around her grandchildren or her pets.

A loving wife of 53 years, Paula met her husband, Dale, in 1971 while they both were attending Baldwin Wallace College in Cleveland, Ohio.  They were married in 1972 in her Ohio hometown, where her sister, Sandy Macchia, and nephew, Peter Macchia, Jr., and his two children still live nearby. One of Paula and Dale’s favorite things to do together was going on cruises of which they did dozens of times.

Paula was an avid reader and accomplished student, and received her bachelor's in nursing before going on to be a pioneering caregiver of AIDS patients during the 1980s in New Orleans.  Active in the church, Paula taught Sunday School for 27 years and you would be hard-pressed to meet anyone who had an unkind word to say about her.

Paula leaves behind a beautiful legacy. She is survived by her husband and best friend, Dale; sons, Troy and Jay; daughters-in-law, Jennifer and Sara; and five grandchildren, Seth, Ava, Adam, Austin, and Loch.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the charity of your choosing. In keeping with Paula and the family’s wishes, there will be no public service but friends are encouraged to celebrate her life in whatever way they feel is fit. The only condition: There must be many fond stories and plenty of laughter.
