In Loving Memory of Peter Bonna
January 29, 1960 – December 25, 2024
Peter Bonna, a devoted father, grandfather, son, and friend, passed away peacefully at 10:20 P.M. on Christmas night, surrounded by love and prayer. His life was a journey marked by challenges, kindness, humor, and the transformative power of God’s grace.
Born on January 29, 1960, in Elmhurst, NY, Peter’s life was not without struggles, but through it all, his heart remained selfless, and his love for his family unshakable. He was the type of person who would give you the shirt off his back, always eager to help those in need.
Peter was a brilliant auto mechanic who had a knack for fixing what others couldn’t and took great satisfaction in using his skills to make things work again.
In retirement, Peter thrived as a volunteer firefighter in Orrum, NC, finding purpose and fulfillment in serving his community. He had a deep love for motorcycles and treasured the adventures they brought him. His rides to iconic destinations like Sturgis and Daytona provided him with a sense of joy and freedom, along with countless stories and keepsakes.
His unique and often politically incorrect sense of humor could light up any room. Peter’s ability to find laughter even in difficult times reflected his resilience and the warmth he brought to those around him.
Peter shared an extraordinary bond with his mother, Rose Mary, calling her every day to stay connected and express his love. His thoughtfulness and devotion extended to his family, especially his son Anthony and his grandchildren, who were his greatest source of pride and joy.
In his final weeks, Peter was blessed to be surrounded by family after moving to Florida. He spent meaningful moments with his son Anthony, daughter-in-law Tara, and his grandchildren, Anthony Jr. and Aubrey. These days were filled with affection, laughter, and—true to Peter’s style—a few errands and shopping trips that kept everyone on their toes, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
On Christmas Eve, Peter received the Last Rites, a profound reminder of God’s mercy and healing. The following night, as Anthony and Tara prayed the Holy Rosary by his side, Peter took his final breath at the beginning of the fourth glorious mystery, the Assumption. This sacred moment offered peace and was a sign of the promise of the resurrection and eternal life we all hope for.
Peter is survived by his son Anthony Bonna Sr. (Tara), his grandchildren Anthony Bonna Jr. (1), Aubrey (10), and Adele (due in April), his mother Rose Mary Bonna, and his sister Rosemarie Madonna (Bruce).
A visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 5-8 P.M. at Haisley Funeral Home in Port St. Lucie, FL. A Traditional Latin Requiem Mass will follow at 10 A.M. on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 W. Lantana Rd., Lantana, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice in Peter’s memory.
Peter’s life is a powerful testament to the mercy and redemption found in God’s love. His exceptional skills as a mechanic, his humor, compassion, and deep dedication to his family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
