Phillip J. Oates, 74, of Fort Pierce, Florida was born April 14, 1940 and passed away May 27, 2014.
Phillip was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul and Jack Resker and Bobby Oates, and his wife of nearly forty-five years, Arlene M. Oates.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Phil joined the Air Force in 1957. Upon completion of his service, he became a merchant marine and traveled the world. After marrying his loving wife in 1966, Phil settled down in upstate New York and became a NY State Corrections Officer. It was this career which Phil would later retire from.
Shortly after his retirement, Phillip moved his wife and four children to Port St. Lucie, Florida. In 1996, the family relocated to Hutchinson Island, where Phil was thrilled to be by the water again.
In 1995, Phil became a “Pop Pop” and was enormously proud of his nine grandchildren: Jordan Restrepo, Damon Restrepo, JT Murray, Payton Restrepo, Amelia Oates, Phillip Oates, Charlie Smith, Alyson Oates and Tommy Smith. In addition to his grandchildren, Phil is survived by his four children: Colleen Murray (JT), Marye Restrepo (Juan), Phillip J. Oates (Jennifer) and Jaimie Smith (Craig).
