Pinnie Woodard Oliver, 89, of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away on July 4th after a brief illness. She was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia and moved to Florida in 1940.
Ms. Oliver volunteered her time in many incredible ways and was a world traveler. She was a devoted mother and beloved grandmother to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, often taking them with her on her many adventures.
Pinnie was involved in boy scouts since 1958 and even recently attended the National Meeting in California. She served in almost every position in a unit and in the District from District Chair in St. Lucie County to District Commissioner to Cubmaster and Den Leader. She helped to start the first Cub Scout packs in Okeechobee and Lakewood Park serving “at risk youth”. She also served on the Jamboree staff in Canada, the National Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, and at the World Jamboree in Chile.
Pinnie Oliver was a long time member of the Ft. Pierce Business & Professional Women’s Club in which she served as president several times, vice-president, and secretary, and treasurer. She also served on numerous committees and was instrumental in initiating fundraisers to enable young women and displaced homemakers attending Indian River Community College to receive scholarships. In addition, she served as a district director for the Florida Federation of Business & Professional Women’s Club serving the Palm Beach and Treasure Coast areas. She attended many state conventions and had won the Individual Development Program competition for the Ft. Pierce Business & Professional Women.
Pinnie Oliver has been honored in other areas as well. As part of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority she was voted Outstanding Girl of the Year three times. Ms. Oliver was also served as a volunteer for the Kiwanis Club, New Horizons, and the United Way, receiving many awards for her devotion and time to each of these worthy causes.
Survivors include her two children: Beth Johnson Coberly and Herschel Johnson; her grandchildren Steven R. Coberly, Herschel D. Johnson III, Travis and Julianna Williams, David and Lorraine Coker; and her seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Herschel D. Johnson and second husband, Charles Oliver.
Pinnie Oliver was a woman of strength and devotion to her family and a beloved friend to all who knew her.

Services: Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011 from 5-7 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held on Friday, July 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will take place at Riverview Memorial Park. A reception will follow at Camp Ah-Ba-Lu-Fa (Boy Scout Camp) at 3548 Selvitz Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.
