Rachel Cogburn Schmidt was born on May 23, 1935. She lived to be 86 years old, passing away on April 21, 2021.
Rachel was born in Florida. She was raised in Fellsmere, where she devoted her life to The Fellsmere Church of God. Rachel worked in the Sugar Cane industry, then in the meat department at the grocery store where she met her husband, Lawrence Schmidt. Rachel married Lawrence Schmidt on November 23, 1953.
They raised 5 children, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Rachel was every dedicated and active in her children’s and sibling lives. She was a kind and giving person who put others needs before her own.
As a dedicated mother, Rachel waited for her children to reach High School, and then went to work at a local fabric store where she became a talented seamstress and made clothing for select residences of Jupiter Island and for her club charities. Later, she went to work in high-end clothing stores where her creativity spilled into creating window displays. Rachel was a fantastically skilled seamstresses who had a creative eye for fashion and arts. She loved to create and make clothing and home decor items. Rachel also had a passion for home decorating where she did her own ceramics, flower arrangements and may other colorful decorations. Rachel’s favorite, signature color was pink, and was displayed in many of her artistic designs. Rachel shared her artistic talents with her children and taught them to always be strong and courageous.
Rachel and her husband, Larry, were members of the Jupiter American Legion and the Elks Club where she loved to socialize, dance, and do many other activities, including fund raising for the local community.
She was a loving mother and wife, who will be greatly missed.
A Gathering will be held on May 22, 2021 from 1PM to 2PM with a Memorial Service to begin at 2PM at the Haisley Tribute Center 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd Port St. Lucie, FL 34984.
