Richard “Basil” Sheets, 82, died October 25, 2007 in Vero Beach, Florida.Mr. Sheets was born in Rugby, Virginia was a resident of Fort Pierce, Florida for 46 years moving to Vero Beach 3 years ago.He worked for Sunrise Ford Tractor in Ft. Pierce as a mechanic for 20 years. He was a member and an usher at the First Church of God, Vero Beach, Veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII and received the Bronze Star.
Basil was an avid fisherman, had a green thumb and was known by many as the “Candy Man.” He loved God & his family very much and will be missed by all.Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Jean B. Sheets of Vero Beach, FL; son & daughter-in-law, Richard B. & Nancy Sheets of Ft. Pierce, FL; son & daughter-in-law, Robbie & Gail Sheets of Ft. Pierce, FL; son, Raymond Sheets of Valley Village, CA; sisters, Bess Berwick of San Leandro, CA and Irene Evans of Adairsville, GA; grandchildren, Debbie Clinco, Beth Hartzog, Rebecca Sayers, and Sarah West; 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Russell “Rusty” Sheets, 5 brothers and 2 sisters.Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God, Building Fund, 1105 58th Ave., Vero Beach, FL 32966.Services: Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2007 from 3:30-6:30 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 3:00 PM at the First Church of God, Vero Beach. Graveside Service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 10:00 AM at White City Cemetery.
