Richard Edward Johnson

Richard Edward Johnson, 80, passed away on December 31, 2016 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

He was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia and was a resident of St. Lucie County, Florida for the past 45 years.

Richard was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Okinawa during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he worked in diverse fields of engineering, aviation, custom wood working, and construction. After his retirement he realized his passion for the sea and spent his time sailing the local and Caribbean waters on his live aboard 37 foot sailboat. Richard had a keen intelligence and was well versed in a variety of topics which he was always happy to discuss and debate. He was an active member of American Legion Post 40 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

Richard was survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Funk of Pt. St Lucie, Florida; sister, Delores Metz of Debary, Florida; son, Frank Johnson of Stuart, Florida; daughter, Julie Johnson Crosby of Ft. Pierce, Florida; his loving grandchildren, Megan, Leah, Brandon, Emily, Matthew, and Olivia; and three great grandchildren, Lilliana, Caleb, and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Johnson of Pt. St. Lucie, Florida.

Friends and family will gather for a celebration of life and to scatter Richard’s ashes at sea. The date will be determined in the near future.
