Richard Rizzo, born on February 16, 1937 passed away on March 22, 2024 at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Rich is survived by his children, Kelly Rizzo of Port St. Lucie, FL, Adele Rizzo of Port St. Lucie, FL, Joseph Rizzo of Aquebogue, NY, and Linda Foley (nee Rizzo) of Tustin, CA; sisters, Barbara Maccarone and Patricia Bastone; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his faithful fur baby companion, Noelle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Rizzo, parents, Joseph & Margaret Rizzo, son, Rick Rizzo, daughter, Deana Rizzo and infant son, Scott Joseph Rizzo.
Rich attended schools in the Bronx, New York and was employed through Union Laborers Local #66. He was a dedicated track & field runner, starting later in life at 40 years old, he ran his first race. He was a member of the NY Pioneers Track Club and Sprint Force America, where he broke many world records. At the time of his passing, Rich was ranked 1st in the U.S.A. and 3rd in the world. He was also Athlete of the Year in 1988.
Rich leaves behind his running mates and many friends. He considered them all “The Gold Medal”. He left behind a legacy on the track.
A Celebration of life will be held in the near future.
