Rita Turner Nelson was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 5, 1929, and resided in Ft. Pierce until 2001 when she and her husband moved to Murphy, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her Husband Lynn W. Nelson and brother Joseph Turner.

Survivors include her son Lynn W. Nelson, Jr. and his wife Pam, Richard H. Nelson and his wife Kim. 4 grandchildren Ryon Nelson and his wife Julie, Lara Panico and her husband Anthony, Sonia Trapp and Andrew Trapp and his wife Jennifer, 5 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was a retired supervisor with Southern Bell and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was past president of the Capron Trail Garden Circle, Ft. Pierce Nobeletts, and a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Zuliema Club and charter member of Gulfstream Lodge, Sons of Norway. She was a member of the Heathcote Botanical Gardens and a member of the Community United Methodist Church in Ft. Pierce, and a member of the Ranger Methodist Church in Murphy, North Carolina.

Friends may call at Haisley Funeral Home on Monday, December 14, from noon – 2PM. The funeral service will be at 2:00PM, with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. A Reception will follow at Haisley Reception Center.

Memorials may be made to Heathcote Botanical Gardens or the Community Methodist Church.
