Robert “Bob” George Brockman, Jr., 84, died May 17, 2017 at Tradition Medical Center in Port Saint Lucie, Florida after a long illness.
Bob was born August 25, 1932 in Rolla, MO to Vida “Peggy” (Felkerson) Brockman and Robert George Brockman, Sr. Bob was raised in Springfield, Missouri, where he graduated from Central High School in 1950. He proudly served four years as a Medic in the U.S. Navy, stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, and was later attached as a Medical Corpsman with the U.S. Marine Corps in Japan during the Korean Conflict. Following military service, he graduated with Bachelor degrees in Physics and Mathematics from Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, MO, now known as Missouri State University; and had a successful career as a Mechanical Draftsman.
For many years, he served as a Sunday school teacher and Deacon at First and Calvary Presbyterian Church in Springfield, where he was also a Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop One. He was artistically talented, creating beautiful leather art pieces when he was younger. He especially enjoyed oil painting in his later years. He enjoyed his workshop and is remembered as an expert Handyman and Craftsman. Bob will be remembered by many for being a true gentleman, a devoted and loving family man, a faithful man of God, and an inspiration to others.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marilyn Joann (Maynard) Brockman. Other survivors include Bradley Brockman of Spring, Texas, Melissa Brockman of Boynton Beach, FL, Charles Brockman of Orlando, FL, Carol (Brockman) Albritton and David of Port St. Lucie, Harriet (Brockman) Bennett and Jerry of Olathe, Kansas. Lovingly called “BobBob” and “Gramps” by his grandchildren; Charlotte Brockman, Jason Albritton and MaryKatherine, Kathy Albritton Benken and Kevin, Gabrielle Bennett and Kierstin Bennett; and Great-Grandchildren Taylor, Thomas, Finnegan, and Donovan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Robert “George” Brockman, III.
The family held a private Celebration of Life at Haisley Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, Florida.
Military Honors Service and burial is being planned for a later date.
