Robert E Flippen Sr.

Robert "Papa" Flippen, Sr., 81, passed away on Thursday November 12th, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. His final days were spent at his home in Ft. Pierce with his family by his side.

He was born to Stuart and Maude Flippen on June 25, 1934 in Keystone, West Virginia. He served two terms in the US Army as an aircraft/helicopter mechanic stationed at atomic testing sites in Nevada and in Ft. Benning, Georgia.

He married Loretta Jean Lambert on November 17, 1955 who passed away on October 5, 1980.

He is survived by his daughters Cherie Blickenstaff and Glynna Summers and son Michael Flippen.

Survived by siblings Ruth Madeline Sizemore, Marjorie Guerriero, Carl Flippen, Angela Jean Bell, Nellie Nagel, Patricia Brown, William Flippen, Nancy McLeod, and Anthony Mack Flippen.

Also survived by grandchildren John Walsh, Brian Walsh, Amber Notragiacomo, Robert Flippen III, Anthony Scott Flippen, Loretta Flippen, Sherman Jones, Thomas Flippen, Jeremy Jones and great-grandchildren Gage, Rylan, Madison, Nathan, Devon, Teagan, Steven, T.J., Brantley, Noah, Evelyn and Emitt.

And not be forgotten, mother-in-law Elsie Ferguson, age 99.

Also known as 'Papa' to extended family Dawn, Stephen and Dylan June, Connie and Bradley Littlejohn, Michele Manson, her daughter Felicity, as well as many others.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Loretta Flippen, son Robert Flippen Jr., Daughter-in-law Kelly Flippen as well as sisters, Rose Frejofsky and Bonnie Tackett.

He will always be remembered as the craftsman, builder, inventor, mechanic, banjo player, poet and prankster. There was not much he could not do.

A private family ceremony will be held Graveside at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens at 10:00 am on Saturday, November 28th. There will also be a celebration of his life that afternoon at his home in Ft. Pierce at 398 Gokchoff Road at 1:00pm, open to all friends and family. Please bring a lawn chair and a dish to share.
