Robert Telford Lyle, Jr.
Robert Telford Lyle, Jr., age 70, passed away June 6, 2014, at Treasure Coast Hospice in Ft. Pierce.
He was born September 14, 1943, in Haines City, FL, and has lived in Ft. Pierce since 1985, coming from Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
He attended Haines City High School, where he was a three-sport letterman, and then attended the University of Florida on a football scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 1965. He went into education and coaching, and retired in 2005 as Athletic Director at Ft. Pierce Westwood High School. Among his career accomplishments, he coached the Palatka High School football team to a 3A state championship in 1981, and was named a Florida Coach of the Year. He loved the outdoors and was a lifelong fisherman. He also enjoyed golfing, cooking, reading and traveling across the United States.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan MacRae Lyle of Ft. Pierce; daughter, Sara Kate Lyle of Brooklyn, NY; siblings Darlene Preston of Palatka, FL, Michael Lyle of Haines City, FL, Patti Jo Lewis of Orange Park, FL, and Cindy Lyle Faustino of Jacksonville, FL. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mary Frances Lyle.
