Robert Paul Ledbetter, Jr., of Port St. Lucie, Florida, has died at the age of 67 on March 18, 2012.
Mr. Ledbetter was born on October 3, 1944 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and returned to Port St. Lucie in 1987 after living in Gainesville, Florida.
He was a deputy for St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Department. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam.
He enjoyed working on and showing off his race car, a 1969 NHRA/IHRA Pontiac Firebird. He served as the Crew Chief of Ledbetter Racing since 1985, with core crew members Robert Ledbetter III, David Ledbetter, Amanda Ledbetter, Mr. Bill Ledbetter. Ledbetter Racing will continue to race in his honor.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Sharon Ledbetter of Port St. Lucie, FL; daughter, Michelle McNamara of Port St. Lucie, FL; sons, David Ledbetter of Port St. Lucie, FL and Robert Ledbetter III of Ft. Pierce, FL; daughter in law, Elizabeth Ledbetter of Ft. Pierce, FL; brothers, Bill Ledbetter of Ft. Pierce, FL, Ted White of Allegan, MI and Les White of Three Rivers, MI; sister, Ruby White of Kalamazoo, MI; 4 granddaughters, Lauren McNamara, Amanda Ledbetter, Meghan McNamara, Autum Ledbetter; and 1 grandson, Raymond McNamara.
He was preceded in death by his parents, father, Robert Paul Ledbetter, Sr. and mother, Barbara Jane Monroe-Ledbetter.
