Obituary for Robert F. Peed, 1961-2023

Robert Fleming Peed died peacefully on October 17, 2023, in St. Lucie County, Florida.

Rob was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on September 15, 1961. Rob was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at birth, which affected his physical and mental abilities for the rest of his life. In an era before all children were guaranteed educational opportunities regardless of their disabilities, the love and sheer determination of his parents—particularly his mother—ensured he would get both quality medical care and educational opportunity. He attended a variety of special education schools in Hawaii, California, Virginia, and West Virginia, before graduating from Lincoln Park High School in Fort Pierce, Florida, in 1979. Rob was able to lead a rich life as a result of his parents’ refusal to accept pessimistic limits on his potential.

Rob had a sweet soul, was surprisingly social, and had a good sense of humor (unless he was teased a little too much by his brothers). He loved all of his family, including cousins who remained close to him throughout his life. He also had a passion for television shows (particularly from the 1960s and 1970s), movies from all eras, many forms of music from the Big Bands to The Beatles, and traveling to Navy ship reunions with his father—a retired US Navy Captain.

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Brooks H. and Lori J. Peed of Fort Pierce, Florida; his niece Sarah Kosack (Dan) and their daughter Talia of Brooklyn, New York; his niece Allison Curby (Jake) and their son Tyler and daughter Elizabeth of Fort Pierce; his niece Hayley Peed of San Diego, California; his cousin Ken Derby of Fort Pierce; his cousin Diana Bell of Seaford, New York; and his cousin Sylvia Parker (Kristen Heiser) of Morgantown, West Virginia.

Rob was predeceased by his loving and beloved parents Elaine H. Peed and Captain George P. Peed, USN, as well as his oldest brother George P. Peed III.

Robert will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia with his father and mother.
