Loving father, grandfather, and friend, Robert “Bob” W. Schwerer, 74, died November 7, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family in Fort Pierce.Bob was born in the Bronx, New York, and lived in Fort Pierce for 53 years, coming from Long Island, New York after honorably serving his country during the Korean War.
Upon coming to Fort Pierce, he first worked with Mackle Brothers Construction, prominent land developers, in starting construction of River Park and the creation of a new city which would become Port St. Lucie. He later joined Bell South where he worked in management and retired after 32 years. Bob’s early years here were actively spent with the Junior Chamber of Commerce (J.C.’s) working diligently in their fund raising activities including the first IRCC Library. He was an avid supporter of all local sporting events particularly John Carroll High School. He also served 33 years as an Umpire for District 7 and 17 American Little League. Bob was a Founding Member of the new St. Anastasia School, local Knights of Columbus, and St. Mark’s Catholic Church where he served as a long-time lector. He was also a Founding Member and the first president of CWA (Communication Workers of America) Local 3111 Union.Bob was a very loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is remembered as a man of high moral character who believed in lending a helping hand wherever needed. He enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride in each of their accomplishments, both academic as well as extracurricular. He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. Bob is survived by 7 children and 19 grandchildren, including, sons, Robert V. Schwerer and wife, Linda, of Fort Pierce; John Schwerer and wife, Laura, of Fort Pierce; Vincent Schwerer and wife, Linda, of Clearwater, Florida; Michael Schwerer and wife, Stacy, of Fort Pierce; and daughters, Ave Schwerer-Rolfes and husband, Mike, of Fort Pierce; Laura Bullara and husband, Robert, of Valrico, Florida; and Katherine Adams and husband, Darryl, of Austin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years, Sarah M.
