Dr. Roger Mittleman, 72, of Stuart, Florida passed away November 17, 2020.
Dr. Roger Elliot Mittleman was born in Brooklyn, New York to Jonas and Charlotte Mittleman. Dr. Mittleman’s family moved to Coral Gables, Miami where most of his youth was spent. He played baseball, sang in choir, played guitar in his high school band “The Blokes”, and was a soda jerk at his father’s restaurant, Jan’s Ice cream Parlor on the Miracle Mile.
Dr. Mittleman attended University of Miami where he earned his MD. Dr. Mittleman completed his training at Jackson Memorial Hospital in pathology and spent an extra year at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. Dr. Mittleman accepted a fellowship in forensic pathology at the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s office. Dr. Mittleman chose to remain at the Miami Dade office upon completion of his program as an associate medical examiner and eventually became Chief Medical Examiner. In 2001, Dr. Mittleman moved from Miami with his family to accept the position of Chief Medical Examiner for the Treasure Coast. A position that he held until 2020.
Dr. Mittleman’s career was marked with scholarship and achievement. He helped publish countless articles and books of forensic and legal importance. Dr. Mittleman was an associate professor at both University of Miami’s medical school and Florida State University’s medical school. Over the course of his career he instructed and mentored countless doctors and professionals locally and abroad. Despite his profuse professional accomplishments, he always remained humble.
Dr. Mittleman was married to Holly Mittleman for 37 loving years. They raised two children, Daniel Mittleman and Carly Mittleman. He is also survived by his sister Linda Leeds of Miami. His family will always remember his love and dedication. He will be dearly missed.

A graveside service will be held on December 6, 2020 at 1PM at Forest Hills Memorial Park 2001 SW Murphy Road Palm City, FL.
