Ronald Lee Crain (82) of Fort Pierce, Florida, died Friday, December 2, 2011 at home. He was born December 28, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Morehouse High School and received an A.S. degree from Brevard Community College in Cocoa, Florida. He was married to Barbara Tapley on June 16, 1984.
Ron served in the army during the Korean Conflict and went directly to Huntsville, Alabama to join the team of Dr. Kurt H. Debus and Dr. Wernher Von Braun in 1953 to work on the NASA Space Program until 1973 as a photographer and printer.
In 1965 he adopted a family of 5 from the Children's Home in Jacksonville : Terry, Randy, Connie, Tena and Tami. He had already adopted Julie. When he and Barbara married, Kay, Sam and Barbara Alan were added to the family. There are now 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Ron is predeceased by brothers, Dan, Frank and Arnold, sister, Edith and mother, Flora Dean Crain (102). Surviving are sisters, Margaret, Dorothy and Hazel and brothers, Jack and Bert.
Funeral arrangements are for Friday, December 9, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at the Haisley Funeral & Cremation Service at 3015 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce. Reception immediately following at the Haisley Family Reception Center.
