Rose Elizabeth Baumker

October 16, 1920 — March 14, 2011

Rose was born in Krakow, MO. to John H. Baumker (1875-1972) and Rose Anna Voss (1877-1925) on the family farm. Her father moved the family to Ft. Pierce, FL in 1927, after the death of his wife, and started in the citrus growing business. He and his sons owned and worked at this until their deaths. Rose died peacefully at Brighton Gardens, Port St. Lucie, March 14, 2011, at the age of 90.

Rose was preceded in death by her sisters, Wilhelmina in 1970, Mary C. Schlitt in 1989, brothers, Clemence E. in 1977, Martin B. in 1989, Andrew J. in 1991, Lawrence H. in 1999, nephew, Roger W. in 2005 and long time friend, Joseph C. Paar in 1990.

She is survived by four nieces, Rose Ann Schlitt, O.P. of Adrian, MI, Dorothy Schlitt Bennett of Gainesville, FL, Catherine Schlitt Brownell (Jud) of Kingsport, TN, Rose Marie Baumker Holtkamp (Kurt) of Port St. Lucie, FL, five nephews, Thomas Baumker (Regina) of Ft. Pierce, FL, Andrew Baumker (Elaine) of Okeechobee, FL, Robert Baumker of Ft. Pierce, FL, Fred C. Schlitt (Margaret) of Davenport, FL, Raymond J. Schlitt (Jean) of Shalimar, FL and many great nieces and nephews.

Rose was caregiver to her father and two brothers before their deaths. She liked to make trips back to the old home place in Missouri with her brothers. She also enjoyed church ministry sponsored trips to Mexico, and Oberamergau, Germany. “Aunt Rose” was the beloved aunt to her nieces and nephews and always supported them and their families with their St. Anastasia School plays, graduations, birthdays, weddings, and other special events. Her modest home, in the orange grove, was known as the annual gathering place for Christmas afternoon, with gift exchange, good food and commencing with lively games of Pinochle.

She attended St. Anastasia Grade School and gave many years of devoted service to St. Anastasia Church and School in Ft. Pierce.
She loved flower, fruit and vegetable gardening, cooking, jelly making, canning, and quilting but most of all loved her dogs and many cats.
She was active in USO, during WW11, when her brothers were in the Army.
She was a member of the St. Anastasia Catholic Women’s Club, National Council of Catholic Women of the Diocese of Orlando and attended numerous conventions, Ladies of the Knights of Columbus, Ladies of the Knights Bowling League, Secretary of the Knights during Msgr. Beerhalter’s years as pastor of St. Anastasia Church.

Friends may visit Thursday, Mar. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. at Haisley Funeral Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anastasia Catholic Church Mar. 18 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
