Rose Lee Brandon

November 11, 1919 — March 5, 2012

Rose Lee Saunders Brandon, age 92, died March 5, 2012 in Ft. Pierce, Florida.

She was a native of Norfolk, Virginia, and came to Ft. Pierce in 1954 from Gainesville, FL.

Mrs. Brandon attended Maury High School in Norfolk, VA and was a graduate of Johnson’s Business College, after which she worked as a legal secretary until her marriage in 1943.

She was an acknowledged expert in one of the most difficult and demanding positions that a woman can hold: Christian housewife and mother. There are no glass ceilings in this profession and she “rose” to the top. Her family came first and she took excellent care of them. She believed in her church. Her crown is not large enough to hold all the stars to which she is entitled. The world is a better place, not only because of the good works she did, but simply because she was here.

She was always involved in the activities of her children and her Church: First United Methodist. She received a life membership to the Women’s Society of the Church, she served as president of the Alpha Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, loved to read, fish, and play bridge. However, she enjoyed the friends she made and the fellowship more than the cards. She will also be remembered for her joy in helping others, and for her sense of humor. She was an active member of the Christian Fellowship Class and considered them her extended family.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Johanna Brandon and Jeff Borden of Chicago, son, John W. Brandon, III of Ft. Pierce, FL and twin grandchildren, AnnaRose Brandon and John William Brandon, IV (the joy of her life), and a grandson, Mark Holmes of Arvada, CO and great-grandchildren, Benjamin & Kathryn Holmes. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Brandon, mother, Mrs. Kennie Casper, and sisters, Mrs. Lillian Gray and Mary Ellen Saunders.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church, 616 Orange Avenue, Fort Pierce, FL 34950 or Hospice of the Treasure Coast, 5000 Dunn Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.

Services: A gathering will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 from 10-11 AM with a service to follow at 11:00 AM at Haisley Funeral Home.
