Roy Allen Hodges, Sr.

Roy Hodges, 94, passed away October 1, 2009, in St. Lucie County, Florida.

Roy was born in Cottonwood, Alabama in 1915 and moved to Wauchula, FL with his family in 1918. He served his country in World War II throughout the Pacific with the 51st Field Artillery 6th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1945. In 1956, he married Wilma Roe and raised three children, Karen, Allen and Carla. Roy was the owner of Hodges Spreader Service and citrus groves in Hardee County. In 1971, Roy moved to Fort Pierce, FL as a pipefitter with Local 630 and worked at the St. Lucie Nuclear Plant, from which he retired.

Roy was a Master Mason with Wauchula Lodge No. 17, Past Post Commander of the VFW in Wauchula, a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Fort Pierce and a member of White City Improvement Club.

Roy is survived by his son, Allen Hodges (Susan) of Fort Pierce, FL, his daughters, Karen Bodden of Citrus Springs, FL and Carla Langel (Jamie) of Fort Pierce, and five grandchildren, Rusty Wiles (Melanie), of Fort Pierce, Jessica Rankin (Michael), of Fort Pierce, Sydney Bodden of Citrus Springs, and Shelby and Grace Hodges of Fort Pierce. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Wilma.

Visitation will held Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at Haisley Funeral Home. A service will be held Monday, October 5, 2009 at 10 AM at Haisley Funeral Home with internment to follow at 3 PM at Wauchula Cemetery in Wauchula, FL with military honors.
