Ruth Strigaro

Ruth Strigaro passed away at the age of 81 on June 2, 2009 at her home in Port St. Lucie.

She was born to Fridolph and Majne Hagglund in Gamlastaden, Skelleftea, Sweden on September 18, 1927. She moved to the United States with her family when she was a child. She lived in Freeport and Brightwaters on Long Island, New York. She moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1982 after she and her husband John retired.

Ruth worked for many years in the retail business with the Abraham and Strauss Company and later the Macy’s Company. After moving to Port St. Lucie she received a certificate as a home health care aide and worked in the field for many years before retiring a second time.

She was married for more than 35 years to her husband John Strigaro who preceded her in death on July 14, 1988. John was the former superintendent of roads in Brightwaters, New York before his retirement.

Ruth was a long time member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Port St. Lucie where she was a commissioned Stephen’s Minister who loving supported individuals in crisis. Ruth was an accomplished chef and enjoyed cooking and entertaining for her friends. She traveled to Sweden many times to visit family and enjoyed traveling with her husband John.

Survivors include her sister-in-law Daisy Strigaro of Oyster, New York; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Marilyn Strigaro of Bayville, New York; niece Sandy (Bob) McCormick of Ypsilanti, Michigan; niece Terri Hagglund of Chardon, Ohio; niece Judy (Bruce) Strigaro-Sheehan of New York City; nephew Michael Hagglund of Sea Cliff, New York and nephew Marty Hagglund of Farmingdale, Maine and many cousins in Sweden.

Deceased are her parents Fridolph and Majne Hagglund; husband John Strigaro; brother Martin Hagglund; brother Rudy Hagglund and nephews Fred Eric Hagglund and Rudy Hagglund, Jr.

A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, Port St. Lucie on June 13, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Burial will be at the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York, alongside her husband.
