Scotty Joe Cross, Sr., age 58, passed away peacefully at Treasure Coast Hospice House on August 2, 2014.
He was born in Odessa, TX, on November 5, 1955 and left the hospital the next day with his adoptive parents, J.O. and Dorothy Cross. By the time he was nine years old, he had spent more time with his missionary parents in Nigeria than in Texas. While in junior and senior high schools, he excelled in basketball and football until knee injuries sidelined him. He also made another trip to Africa with his father in the early 1970’s. In 1976, he moved to Fort Pierce, FL and got a job at Eckerd Drugs where he met the pharmacist Ann Osenton. They were married on June 20, 1976, and began their 38-year adventure together. Three years later, they were blessed to bring a son, Scotty Joe Cross, Jr. into the world.
Whether remembered as a young manager at McDonalds, the long-haired, bearded electrician, the jeeper, the dart player, the trucker, the avid fisherman, or the Dallas Cowboys fan, he will certainly be remembered as a loyal friend and confidant.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, J.O. and Dorothy Cross. He is survived by his wife, Ann Osenton Cross, son and daughter-in-law, Scotty and Candice Cross of Port St. Lucie, FL, sister, Melody Cross Wright of Crane, TX, stepmother, Virginia Roemisch Cross of Odessa, TX, sisters-in-law, Frances Osenton Miracle of Grayson, KY, and Lillian Osenton Leadingham of Catlettsburg, KY; step-grandson, Manuel Quevedo, Jr., and several nephews and nieces and other young people who knew him as their Uncle Scott. He will be missed by his beloved companion, his furry friend, Dixie.
