Shelby G. Pennington
Shelby G. Pennington was born on October 21, 1939 in Cawood, Kentucky. He passed away in Fort Pierce, Florida on May 11, 2022.
His parents were Entha and Boyd Pennington. In 1960 he married Ila Darlene Seals of Winters, Texas.
Shelby was a member of the First Baptist Church and an associate member of the Grace United Methodist Church both of Connersville, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife Ila Darlene Seals Pennington; two sons, Jimmy (Kim) Pennington of Fort Pierce, FL and Donnie (Lea) Pennington of Elburn, IL; brother, William Pennington of Clarksville, IN; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Justin and Amanda and Jackson of Vero Beach, FL; Alyssa and Peter Bushnell and Zephyr of Elburn, IL; Jordan, Skyler, and Kasana Pennington of Elburn, IL.
He received a BA of Arts Degree “With High Distinction” in 1971, and a MA Degree in 1973 both from Eastern Kentucky University. He was a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education.
He was a member of the Connersville Sundowners Kiwanis, board member and worker for Habitat for Humanity, Friends of the Fayette County Library all of Connersville, Indiana. He was also a volunteer for the Lake Cumberland Hospice in Somerset, KY.
He was on active duty in the USAF from 1957 to 1962 with the rank of E-4 as a Fuels Specialist, He was stationed in Texas, Morocco, and New Mexico.
He worked as a yard clerk for the L&NRR from 1962 to 1967. In 1972, he began working for the Fayette Schools. He worked as a special education teacher for 24 years. After retirement, he worked several parttime jobs.
His interest include religion, reading, gardening, and traveling.
